One of the classes I'm taking this semester at college requires the program Rhapsody (which is for Windows only). I'm not sure why the professor uses this program considering the fact that he really can't assume EVERYONE will have a Windows computer, right? I don't know what to do... I need this program in order to play certain songs we will be quizzed over on the exams. I would prefer to not have to install Parallels/Boot Camp.

I guess there aren't many suggestions to give to this situation, but I'm stuck. Class is on Monday.

Other than something like wine or something like parallels/fusion or something like bootcamp, there isn't much.

Besides, what's so hard about vmware fusion or something?

Do you have a Windows licence? If not, was it clear before you started your course that you would require expensive software? I think it's appalling to force people to buy software without warning.

They also "assume" you have Word, etc. And if this is for a class that requires Windows in any way, the school probably has some agreement with Microsoft to provide Windows at low-cost/free. I have to use visual studio for some of my classes, and that's definitely free through school, as well as windows xp and vista, through MSDNAA (might I note, even before the existence of the express editions and whatnot..).


Either way, if it's required for an exam, you don't have much choice other than using windows in some way..or using Wine (dunno if that might work though with your app).

Oh yeah. What I mentioned isn't always available everywhere for all classes, just throwing out that possibility.

Although, unless it's like a CS/engineering/science class or something (which it doesn't sound like), laptops are required?! I can't imagine a class like that...I'm pretty sure you'd be able to use labs or something instead. And if they're take-home exams..well then.

I'm just taking this classas an art credit, it's a music class. I had no idea going into it that I would need this program. I wouldn't bother with it, but it just so happens that I got the ONE professor out of 3 who instruct this course that seems to be absolutely anal about it. I don't think it's too fair... in the syllabus, it says those who do not have access to a personal computer or something should go to the library. I guess that's what I'll have to do...

Okay, so... get this! I walk into class today and the professor is working off of a MacBook too! He's a Mac user and fanatic about them... I REALLY don't understand his choice in using this program now.

Maybe he's doing the logical thing of running Windows on his macbook?

That's odd...have you talked to him about your dilemma? It's quite simple to get discounted prices on windows at many (if not most) colleges and universities.
