Yes. It is similar enough to WoW to pick up and get into, but different from WoW enough to be fun and engaging.

RIFT is PC-only though, and has steeper hardware requirements from WoW it seems. Bootcamp on a recent Mac should handle it well enough.

The first world "event" ended last week, so the population seems to have come back (after being tired of constant "event" stuff going on I guess).

Definitely worth checking out if you are not into WoW, but like the type/genre of game.

You should definitely take a look at Rift. The controls are almost exactly the same as in WoW, but the graphics is much much better!

My first impression was that they just took the best of WoW and Warhammer and combined it with an awesome visual engine.

It is good , but it does not have the same crack habit addictiveness wow has, think of it as the mmo version of methadone to help get you off mmos

Everyone I know who played it played for a couple of weeks and quit. It looks pretty, and it's easy to pick up the gameplay, but that's because it's exactly like WoW, and for me that made it boring and predictable. The questing story lines in WoW are much more engaging than in Rift.

I'd go back to WoW before playing any more Rift, just because WoW is so much more polished, and the 0-60 experience is so much better now.

Here's hoping GW2 lives up to the hype. I'll pass on MMOs until then.

Can't disagree more. I enjoy it very much, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Looks interesting, probably going to pick it up after the semester finishes. Going to have lots of time to play as a new grad looking for a job....

I decided to give the Rift 7 day trial* a go and so far it's ok. The premise is interesting. The world is over run by baddies and the only way to save it is to go back in time through a portal and make a difference when you can make a real difference. ;)

*Note, for some reason I could not get the trial to work right from Trion's web site. I could download the client, but not get a key. I had to call their tech support to get the game unlocked for me.

I've run into a permanent minor rift right after leaving the starter area which I think is there just to expose you to a rift. My initial impression is that it's ok, environmentally (from what little I've seen) not as rich a WoW. Similar game mechanics except each class gets 8 variants to mix and match from. They are called souls and as the game progresses you get to add 3 souls to a build, each soul focuses on different skills. For cleric, you can be primarily defensive healer, offensive dps, or something in between. I'm undecided if I'll take this game beyond the trial. Darn, maybe I'm just been ruined by WoW...
