Is this a software issue or hardware? Sometimes it works and sometimes people don’t hear my voice and I end up switching to the phone to speak to them. I usually only wear the right AirPod so this is kind of a big deal, I tried unpair and repairing the AirPods but same thing

Switch to the left ear pod for a week
If the problem goes away you may have a defective right ear pod.

if the problem stays the same could be your phone or another Bluetooth device interference. Car speaker tile etc.

So the left one is doing the same thing so it’s not the mic in the right ear pod only it’s only happening with the mic on the left AirPod, for some reason the mic does not work when I pickup a phone call with my AirPods, what does this mean? Should I reset network settings on the iPhone?

If both pods are doing the same thing I would focus on the iPhone
Before you reset network settings make sure the Airpods are at the top of the Bluetooth stack. They should also be connected if you expect immediate transfer.

Yes they are at the top, but what difference does them being at the top even make? I don’t even think the order of Bluetooth devices can be changed..

by the way, if I resent network settings, would that unpair my Apple Watch from my iPhone? Does it even make sense resetting network settings?

Are your AirPods paired with your watch ?
If so you could try turning your watch off to see if that changes the microphone connectivity on a call.
You may also want to try calling yourself from a landline to see if its really your issue or just someone else's.

Ive tried it with both versions of AirPods as well as IOS 13-13.1.2 xS and now 11 Pro (series 4 watch os 6-6.1) and haven't been able to reproduce the issue.

No you cannot rearrange bluetooth devices however when all devices are forgotten the one you pair first becomes first.
I had a stack full of Tiles (trackers) for testing and my bluetooth earpieces and headsets at the bottom were always the last to connect. Added 10ns of seconds to call connect, if at all

Best of luck.

Sorry just saw your reply, the issue still persists. yes the AirPods are connected to my series 4 Apple Watch and I usually pick up the call I receive by click the little AirPods icon on my Apple Watch when I reciieve a call to pick it up. I really don’t know what the issue is. I might just bring the AirPods into the genius bar because I really don’t know what could be causing this
