Hi, OK - I hear so many infos in reg. to DIMM placement

Q - 4 x 16 GB // 64 GB DIMMS - 1333 MHz - in which slots ?

I had put them. into several configs. -
1,2,3+5
1,2,5+6 -(Apple recom.)
1,3,5,+7
Even I try Triple Channel Mode - 3 DIMM into 1,2,+3 - no change in increasement of values !!!
Expand as well 64 GB -> 96 GB by using 4x16 GB + 4 x 8 GB // --> 4x 16 GB ->1,2,5 +6 -- + 4 x 8 GB --> 3,4,7+8

Syst. :
Upgraded 4.1-> 5.1 MP from 8 core to 12 core with 2x X5680 CPU's
64 GB RAM - 1333 - DIMMS - 1+2, 5+6 // 4x 16GB
GC- GTX680/2GB
SSD - EVO 860 1 TB
10.14.6

Which config. you consider ?

The best Nehalem/Westmere memory performance with a MacPro5,1 is 3 DIMMs per CPU, it's a tri-channel platform, but this is really only detected with memory bound/memory throughput benchmarks, not Geekbench or other common benchmarks.

The best config possible for a dual CPU board is 6x16GB 1333MHz RDIMMs, (1-3, 5-7).

More than 3 DIMMs for each CPU, i.e more than 96GB of RAM, will have some performance penalty with the fourth DIMM sharing the third channel. Please note that if you have an application that demands more RAM, is always better to have more RAM than faster RAM, but if your workflow is not using all memory that you have installed, it's always better to have faster RAM.

Thanks tsialex, I found also following DIMM/ Slot config. intresting and have noticed an increase in speed by using. 1,2,3+5 á 16 GB..
