Hola! So I started this little "production company" for some of my music and films.

I bought the domain with godaddy, and have one month hosting with them. So first off, after my month, can someone recommened some good hosting companies. There seem to be a million out there, and I'm not looking to spend anything more than $10-15 a month. Are there any problems using Windows server and ASP with my Mac?

However, If I plan on streaming some videos and music on my site, will a $15 hosting plan be enough?

Second off, can someone help me out with this Dreamweaver linking. I tried for a while, but couldn't figure out how to have the link on the main image take me off my root site. It just seems to add the "myspace...." to the end of "www.pythonrichards.com" Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Also, is it worth it to spend some time doing flash? A lot of sites seem to be in flash, but this is my first attempt at anything web-based.

Any answers to some of these questions, and any critique to my little welcome graphic would be really awesome!

Thanks everyone!

Jake

I've used Gate.com and have always been extremely happy with them. Their bandwidth + space are unparalleled. I think they've downgraded their packages lately, but it was at 5 GGB of space/500 GB of bandwidth. I think it's 200GB BW now.

Before them, I used namesarecheap.com, which I know sounds ridiculously gimmicky, but they were the best web hosts I've ever used. Amazing customer service (as in I always got an email response within an hour, and always a personal response, not a canned one from their Help section). I eventually had to leave because I needed more bandwidth, and one of the Customer Service reps sent me a personal email saying thanks for a great 4 years and that he would miss my site (and he mentioned some things from it, this was a personal email). They had fantastic uptime as well. I really didn't want to leave, but I HIGHLY recommend them.

Hi. First off, $10-$15 a month for WebHosting should be fine. As far as hosting goes, there are a million of them. Whether you want to go with a huge corperation like Yahoo or Microsoft is your choice. I host my site with Itasor, another MR member. I can't say how much traffic your site will draw or even how much BandWidth you will use but I know that what he offers for $10 should be more than enough. I believe I pay $2.50 a month for 250Mb space and 2.5Gb Bandwidth, which is more than fine for a my small site. I think he charges $10 for 1Gb webspace and 10Gb Bandwidth. His server is very reliable as I think its been up for about 99% of the time the last few months. It also comes with CPanel Control and tons of optional software you can install. I know you may get a little "more bang for your buck" somewhere else, but his service is fantastic. His support is also great, he is almost always online with AIM and answers my questions immediately. Like I said, there are hundreds of companys out there and the choice is yours. As far as flash goes, I've found it to really add to the quality of a site. Especially since you have a Production Company. As long as you "don't over do it" and make sure the Flash looks very nice and not cheap, then I'd say go for it. This post is getting long so, I'll end there.;)

Best Of Luck, Kevin:)

Edit: By the way, I love your site. Very creative. Not so sure about the rollover effect but thats just my opinion.

I've been with these guys for a year. They allow up to 5 different sites per account, so if you have more than one website, it's a perfect solution. Only $6.95 month and includes domain.

I have to add my host. Siteground gives you 24 GB storage and 800GB bandwith with a free domain for 4.95 a month. Their customer support is very prompt and useful.

Thanks for the help everyone.

At godaddy, I'm paying $7 a month for 50 GB space, and 500 GB bandwith.

I'm thinking maybe I should just stay here. I was just worried becuase it said "Operating System - Windows" and I'm doing all my work on the Mac. But so far, it hasn't really been a problem.

I'll just keep looking around for the best deal.

Also, does anyone know what I might be doing wrong when I set the link to my rollover image? I'd like to link outside my site, not in reference to my root. I'm using DW8.

Thanks!
