When I get a call and my phone rings, it rings normally 2/3 times but then suddenly it fades out extremely badly and even sounds “echoey” the best way I can describe it.

Anyone else ever experienced this?

When you pick up you phone, while ringing, and it recognizes you, it decreases the volume.

It is a feature. Many posts on this.
Cheers - it does it whilst it’s just laying down next to my iPad without me even picking it up, would this be the Face ID feature recognising me and doing it?

Is there a way to turn this feature off

If you have 'attention aware features' turned on in settings, the volume of your alerts and ringer will be reduced when you look at the phone

Its in the settings for Face ID

Not quite sure how that might relate to it simply lying somewhere without you being next to it--unless you mean you are still there looking at it.
