I have read all the ways to make ringtones and enter them in the tunes section of the phone through iTunes but I can't get some to go. No matter what format I do but I have others that i never changed from when I made them for my iphone7 and they dropped over fine and are showing as M4r files. Im trying to setup my wife new iPhone as I finally converted her from android and now I get to hear about this till I can correct it.

thank you for any help received.

I’m sorry to hear that.. I’m going through the exact same problem..ios 11 and iTunes has really screwed it up.. and I read and followed the discussions at Apple.com, but I still can’t add the ringtones.. hell i can’t even remove the ones I synced on my phone.. i think you should either check on the discussions at Apple.com, or if any Apple store is there in your locality, ask them to solve your issue..

Just a wild stab, what is the play-time of these failing tones? Seem to recall that iTunes has a limit to size/length of a tone (something like 30 seconds).

M4r is the correct extension. I have done the trick re: creating a new AAC version of a sound via iTunes, changing the extension, then drag/drop into Tones section.

That said, I have run into issues where my old tones did not work after an iOS upgrade and had to re-import them (made a copy of original, renamed, dragged back in).

I as well could never get them to transfer in iTunes, they are in the correct format *.m4r but when I try to move them to the ringtones window I get this stop sign.

Same thing with the photos, when I hit sync, it just finishes instantly and no photos are moved and I no longer get that option to choose to sync all photos or certain folders.

This is on my iPhone X using iTunes v12.7.3

I researched a lot and finally came across this program called Syncios which is free for the basic things like transferring music, pics, and ringtones which is enough for most users really.

See this thread here:
Syncios! The best iOS File/Media transfer/backup tool!

ALL because Apple changed the way stuff are synced and removes “app sync feature” in iTunes 12.7. I am using iTunes 12.6.3 which does includes all of those features. I am not sure if it supports 8 and X but good for me.

Exactly.. sometimes, when I try to sync my new custom ringtones they get synced. But then I can’t dekete them from my phone. And sometimes nothing get synced. I think they took “it works like magic” waaaay toooo seriously, cause I just wait for the magic to happen...

Same here. It does sync and remove ringtones in iTunes 12.6.3, but as I upgrade to 12.7, it's a game of luck. And my friend recommends MacX MediaTrans for me. It really works, syncing ringtone to my iPhone 7, deleting old ones without error, and making ringtones from any songs of my iPhone. Better yet, you can do all these in batches and finally apply them in one click.

Has anyone figured out a way to delete custom ringtones off the iPhone? I am running iTunes 12.7 and deleted the custom ringtone from iTunes but it still shows on my iPhone X.

Edited to add: Figured it out using iMazing 2.
[doublepost=1520992895][/doublepost]If you want to add custom ringtones to your iPhone without iTunes, you can use a program called Waltr 2. It is very quick and easy (drag and drop files to the center of the app). It only takes a matter of 2 seconds or so. Works every time.

I am not affiliated with Waltr 2. Just a satisfied customer.
