Ringtones for $2...I Think NOT

So what I paid $600 for the phone. I don't want to pay $1 for a song and another full $1 10-15 seconds of a ringtone. Are we paying for the ringtone maker software?

1. I rarely BUY music. I want to make ringtones from MY colection. BUT I don't wanna hack this thing.

2. I have always made my own ringtones. There has to be a way to just put homemade ringtones into the directory that the new iTunes uses without using a 'hack.'

3. Where's the video how-to?

yeah who did not see this coming. From day one the reason one could not use there own ring tones is because Apple was being greedy. Yes APPLE. AT&T never really gave a hoot. They let all their other phones have the users install their own custom ringtones FOR FREE. Why the hell would I want to pay 0.99 cents when I can make my own for free.

It is a load of crap. I think everyone should just keep raising hell about it with apple and call them for their crap like it is.

I see no good reason why we could not install our own ring tones.

So your basically saying- I steal music and I want free ring tones without hacking my phone. Are you crazy?

Its like saying- I have a min wage job, I want to own a brand new Rolls Royce, but I don't want to steal it. Does anyone have a video for this?

If you paid 600.00 for a phone- I hope you can spare the 99 cents for a ring tone. Its like buying a Hummer and not being able to put gas in it.

I BUY all my music on CD, not iTunes (the CD premium is worth it to me for the better audio). I should be able to take a clip of ANY song from a CD that I bought and put it on the iPhone without paying anyone any money. What about my own sounds and clips that I made myself? I should be able to use these as ringtones as well.

Paying for the music and the ringtone is just plain stupid. I do not believe it's apple being greedy so much as it's the music industry. This industry is rampant with greed. They have been making so much money for so long, but now the paradigm has changed and they are grasping at ways to continue this high margin revenue stream.

Oooo...kkkkk.... Install Installer.app, Open SSH, and use Cyberduck to place the files in the appropriate folder.

Its easy as pie, and nowadays doesnt even involve the command line.

Honestly I dont understand people who say "I want to do ____ but I dont want to "hack" it." My eyes just roll right out of my head. The worst thing that can happen is you have to restore it, thus eliminating all evidence that you ever modified it. And these days, no one ever has to do that. (Unless you use that new iFuntastic... man that sucked)

Anyway, I consider it a source of pride that my iPhone has been hacked to bits. Ill be damned if Ill let any company (even Apple) tell me what I can or can't do with a device that I purchased. Ill do whatever/install whatever/use whatever ringtone the ^#%# I want.

Is there a PC alternative for iToner or equivalent to it? I'm eventually making the leap to a Mac but I was hoping for something now and one that doesn't "feel like a hack". Thanks for any info!

It seems fairly decent, but when I try to use some songs that I have downloaded off of iTunes it says "Recording the sound card output is not possible on this system. Please select a mp3 file instead." Aren't iTunes songs MP3s to begin with? Thanks for any info again!

You bought a phone that you knew didn't have customizable ringtones. Now that Apple has so kindly added the feature that wasn't listed when you bought the phone, you're mad that it's not free?

Paying $600 for a phone doesn't mean you're entitled to anything and everything for free.

Fortunately or Unfortunately

Fortunately or unfortunately Apple entered in the business of selling music. Unfortunately for record labels, they are losing mad amounts of money because people steal music more than buy it now. No record company can live off ITunes sales and all of the record companies are scrambling for ways to make money of there catalogs and artists (ringtones, answertones, owning the artist website, percentages of their merch and TOURING merch, publishing). Apple the #1 digital retail and number 3 retail are working with them to make more money off these songs. They would probably be more open to free ringtones if people actually bought all of there music.

My suggestion is if you don't like it, do not buy the ringtones. That will give Apple a big clue to how you feel about this. I personally feel they will sell more songs if they just let you make a ringtone out of Itunes songs you bought for free. I for one would buy more music off Itunes knowing I could make ringtones off them for free. Right now I probably will only buy a couple songs I want and thats it.

Also remember, Apple makes a little money off ITunes, but nothing like the money they make off of you buying their products. Apple is making more money than record companies (who take all the risk and fork over money for artist development, advertising and recording) and these record companies get pissed about this fact.

I am just waiting for Apples record label to happen.

I am up to 7 different AT&T phones across several different brands all bought with in the past year and all of them take any ring tones sent to them.

The only requirement is they have either blue tooth or mobile web. So yeah I am going to say it safe to say this is 100% apple doing this. Not like AT&t is going to get a penny off those ring tone sells.
