im really glad they took out the little submenu of ringtones on itunes.. cuz that means we dont have to buy ringtones and the bluetoothing for ringtones will work most likely ... ???? im kinda confused cuz i didnt see any bluetooth options in the guided tour tho so i dunno how ringtones are ganna work .. ne ideas...

ha! i was about to post... so you can transfer them over... derrrrrr....

most cell phones let you transfer mp3s via bluetooth and use them as mp3's, but now i'm sure they'll just be through itunes.

how is bluetooth supposed to tie into ringtones?

u kno how on like every other fone out there .. u can just get ringtones from ur friends fones by bluetooth .. the only company that doesnt allow this is Verizon cuz they want to f**k u everytime they have a chance... soo if iphone allows this u can basically have all the ringtones u can think of for free.. if not .. u would have to pay for every ringtone u wanna get to sync with ur contacts #s

....

wat about the rumor about being able to cut a piece out of any song and being able to use it as an ringtone... thatd be the hottest thing to happen since compact disc lol :D

Oh ok. Well they've already said that you won't be able to sync via wifi or bluetooth, so I'm doubting that is possible.

The fact that there is no ringtone tab makes me think either A) they just didn't display it in the video and it will be there later or B) you can use your music as ringtones, selecting the song on the phone.

There had already been reports that you could not use your own music library as ringtones, but who knows maybe they'll retract that. It certainly would be nice.

According to a response I got in an Apple Discussion forum, they hadn't released any BT info, as far as "Bluetooth File Exchange" or tethered internet through BT. Syncing over BT won't happen, apparently. :(

I would be very surprised if you couldn't xfer at least some file types. Apple has been touting BT + phone for a long time. The Activation video doesn't show a "Notes" tab in iTunes. Perhaps it's just missing from the version in the video - or it can be done through other means.

Ringtones were and still are the best trick on modern technology. The fact that it is among the largest of money markets in the world is absurd!

You can purchase full length songs through iTunes for less than costs of ringtones and people still do it. Pretty crazy if you ask me.

It seems like there is still a large chunk of folks that don't exactly take advantage of or know how to take advantage of the software that is right in front of them everyday. Use programs like QuickTime [even] to chop up your music, recreate files and then direct them to your electronics. Save your money people.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure iPhone has Bluetooth. IDK, just a feeling.

it would be very sad and pathetic if one can not just install there own custom ring towns on their phone. I would hate the fact that they would force you to buy a ring tone if you want a custom one.
Right my ring ton they do not even sell on cingular web sight or any web sight for that matter. I took the part of the original Transformer sound track and cut 30 sec of it out for my ring tone. I also will use a few other ring tones from some old cartoons (Alvin and the chipmunks for example) and I choose the clip I want and then I transfer it.

It would tick me off if I spent 600 bucks for the iphone and then could not use the ring tone of my choice.
Now I am not buying the iPhone because it cost 600 bucks and I not willing to put that much down for something I would more than likely break with in a year or 2 and the iPhone is to big for my taste but that beside the point. I think it is cool just not what I want out of a phone.

My wife's Pearl can use any MP3 as a ringtone, it can even be stored on the MicroSD card.

If the iPhone can't do it, that seems like a Cingular/AT&T defined rule to avoid impacting the ringtone store. Given how Apple has ran the show from the start, I can't see that happening.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. A ring town would surely weight a ring ton! :D:D

Is there an award for the worst post ever?? This guy can't even spell phone.

It sickens me when I see this garbage, please learn to write proper english.

stupid spell checker. Completely worthless when one uses the wrong word spelled correctly (and it doesn't help that I wasn't paying attention when I did the correction with the spell checker)

Has no one given consideration to the problems inherent with using songs as ring tones ON AN IPOD. Your listening too a song, it fades out your phone starts ringing, must just be the next song on the list....

There is a very good reason they haven't let you use custom ring tones on the iPhone. To stop consumers shooting themselves in the foot.

That would be stupid if you can't use songs as ringtones. My RAZR with Cingular can do that. I just transfer them over via bluetooth and I am good to go.

Also I haven't seen anything about buying ringtones from ATT on the iPhone so I can't understand why you can't use your own ringtones.
