Ringtones

I have two iPhones, a 6s plus and an 8 plus. I have set as my default a tone I down loaded from iTunes, no problem with that. I also have a ring tone called TMS that I bought from iTunes which I want to use when family members call me. If I assign it to the family members on say my 8 plus I then look on my 6s and the same family member have the “ opening “ ring tone assigned to them., bearing in mind that I have changed the default ringtone. If I then change the family members ringtone on my 6s to the TMS one the family members ringtone on the 8 plus changes to “opening”, in other words I cannot have the same ringtone on both phones for my family members. Any ideas.

I am on the latest software iOS 11.1 on both phones

That's odd . I have different ringtones for members my family and they sync between iPhone and iPad with no problem. Try a hard reboot maybe .

just tried the reboot, no joy. I can sync the ring tones across both phones and my iPad if I use the pre-installed tones, but not using the ringtones I have bought from Apple.
