I have about 700+ ripped DVD's primarily on one external hardrive. I also have my entire Itunes library on that external harddrive as well. The HD is connected to my imac and I serv the movies to my house with Apple TV2 in all rooms. I would like an ultra capacity simple raid solution that I can connect via firewire. I would rather not hassle with NAS since I have the interface with ATV2 already. Any suggestions on how to do this cheaper than the $600+ drobo?

I second the recommendation for OWC Mercury Elite Pro Qx2. I installed this with four 4GB Hitachi drives to get 12GB of storage with RAID 5. The firewire connection means that transfer speeds are really high. I am all set for media storage for a long time!
