Here we go.

The time has come. I managed to get a Samsung 850 evo 1TB SSD for $245, and finally, after 3 years of having my iMac (3 YEARS!!!!) I will unleash its true potential.

I've already bought a kit with the appropriate adhesives, and a kit that will let me use the extra mSATA port as a regular SATA port.

I plan on partitioning the 1TB SSD in half, and using one partition as a Fusion Drive, and the other half as my Boot Camp partition.

I've been planning on doing this for a long time, and having researched the matter, this is possible.
I do not expect this to be easy, and I will be extraordinarily happy if I can get it all to work in one go.

My plan of action is:
1. Receive SSD in mail.
2. Partition SSD and clone Boot camp partition using SuperDuper! and external SATA thing.
3. Rip iMac open and install SSD.
4. Set up the fusion drive using the remaining 500GB partition on the SSD.

Help is greatly appreciated, and I will post the steps in this thread for anyone else trying to do something similar,

That will work just fine. I currently have 2 MacMinis each with a 512GB SSD and a 2TB hard disk. The SSD is partitioned in half with 256GB for bootable Windows 10, and the other 256GB for OS X as part of the Fusion drive with the hard disk.

Just follow the normal instructions for creating a Fusion drive, but use the "Drive & Partition" ID for the SSD part. Other than that, it is just like creating any DIY Fusion drive.

I’m mainly concerned with boot camp being a little ****. It’s very very very particular about its partitions and windows installations.

One way to install would be to do a basic OS X install to the SSD, use BootCamp Assistant to create and install Windows to your now partitioned SSD. Then, create the Fusion drive using only the OS X part of the SSD, and reinstall your full OS X on the Fusion drive.

This sounds like a good idea.
 
Just put everything together, iMac won't start.

My stress level isn't high, but it's definitely rising...

It seemed to work for me, but then I predated bootcamp and used the methods out there to install windows before Apple provided the bootcamp process. Remember, when Apple transitioned over to Intel from the PPC platform, they did not sanction a way to run windows on your Mac.

I swear apple intentionally made boot camp assistant the bitchiest most awful piece of software in the history of the world. They went to the DMV, looked at the personalities of those people, and went "Yes! This is what we want!"

Thats funny but I did manage it last year on a 13 inch macbook pro.
