Ripping CDs Takes 20 Minutes?

I just tried to rip a couple CDs onto my new iMac for the first time. Both of them took about 15-20 minutes to rip. Is this normal?

That sounds slow, it generally takes me 7-10 minutes on a Macbook.

If you have error checking on it makes ripping slow... Turn it off and it should ake 5-6mins per CD

Also try cleaning the disk, that might help. If the CD is scratched, that'll increase the time

What brand name Optical drive do you have in your imac?

You can check your optical drive brand name by clicking the Apple Menu, then do Option+System Profiler (the about this mac disappears and turns into system profiler), then click disc burning in the side bar. then copy and the bold text and paste it here. I have had good luck with my Matshita Drive.

Is there a loud sound coming from your drive?
