I have a reservation for an ipad, but I don't really want to get up early on Saturday and wait in a long line for hours. Therefore, I was planning on getting to the store around 11 or 12, and I would imagine the line would have gotten alot shorter by then.

My only worry is that somehow people getting there later might not be guaranteed an iPad, even with a reservation. Yet, I know Apple says in all the announcements that as long as you come between 9 and 3, you will get an iPad.

Anyone think there is any risk I won't get an iPad if I go later?

And if there isn't, I don't see why someone wouldn't just wait a few hours and let the line dissipate.

I'm pretty sure the point of the reservation is so you don't have to stand in line to wait hours.

I bet people are still going to wait in lines for hours, simply because there will be a ton of people all getting there before 9, and they all have reservations. So the reservation line will be long.

I'm just worried I'll get there at say noon, and an Apple employee will tell me that they only had 250 ipads available for people with reservations and that they're all sold out. I know they are supposed to have calculated the number of reservations with how many ipads they have in the store, but I could see them messing it up somewhere.

Nobody with a reservation is guaranteed anything. A guarantee is a secured promise, and there is nothing securing either your ability to buy or Apple's ability to provide. There's always a small risk.

If you don't want to wait in the early morning line, which is completely understandable because it'll be filled with people like the lunatics on this forum, call the store in the morning and ask if they received enough stock to cover all reservations. They'll probably say yes, and then you can have a nice, peaceful breakfast before heading over at noon.

The email I rec'd this AM says:

"Your iPad will be ready and waiting this Saturday from 9am to 3pm"

The way I interpret that is that my reservation is pretty much going to be there as long I get to the store before 3. So barring some unforeseen event, yes, I think you can go at your leisure to p/u your iPad.

not true...I had a reservation for the iPhone 3GS back on release day and showed up there with a reservation in hand and was told mine was given away to someone else. I had to pick one up later at an AT&T store...but the point is, the reservation does not guarantee you anything but telling the store how many iPads to order for that store. These iPads at any time can be given out on a first come first serve basis if you arent one of the people waiting in line at a certain time. I was shocked to learn this and evidently there is fine print on the bottom of any in-store reservation which I did not see...I hope people pay attention to this policy because I was pissed off

Apple has slapped on the 9am to 3pm on everything about reservations for the iPad. If you get there at 2:59 your iPad will still be there for you. This is why they have extra stock for walk-ins.

I hope your right...thats what I thought with the iPhone 3GS...they had the time limit and I was there 2 hours before the drop dead time and they had already started selling off the reservation batch...I dont trust any of the Apple store geeks...they screw things up all the time in those stores...
