Has anyone ever had their iPhone hacked?

I got a call from O2, my UK provider, it was them, not a spam or scam call. At the end they said they had a cheap deal on mcafee for up to 5 handsets.

If I only get apps from iTunes, and only sync with my PC that has norton, and macbook that never sees any virus, where's the risk to my iPhone? They claim there are virus that can get on the iPhone. I've never heard of anyone having their iPhone attacked.

Does it happen? and what is the real risk to the average user?

They also offer other unique functions, like locating my phone if I lose it (just like "find my iPhone"), and locking it if stolen (O2 can do that anytime with the IMEI). Not the best sales pitch when you point out all that is already there.

Does the appleid still stop other iTunes connecting to the phone and wiping it if you are logged in?

That sound very wierd. i heard its possible with jailbroken iOS devices to get virus. There was though, hmm i think on an ios 8 update, where Safari was risky to use :/

There are no viruses on the iPhone.
The McAfee application is free, and it can't scan an iPhone for any sort of viruses that might affect other applications anyway, due to restrictions that Apple built into iOS.

That's what I thought, think it must be a generic pitch aimed at android or windows phone owners

Nah it's all a crock that they're telling you.

I got a cold-call from EE's fantastic Indian sales team offering me 'quick' broadband at a great price. I told them I really wasn't interested, god help the fact I know what I want to buy and use, and they kept pushing. Finally I told them I'm shortly getting gigabit Internet fitted through Hyperoptic, which you'd think would have been enough to end the conversation.

"Gigabit?" questioned the lady with a laugh, easing into her scripted sales pitch. "I can offer you megabit."

Facepalm, obviously - followed by a short-tempered correction on how many megas go into a giga - and I hung up.

Sorry to go off on a tangent, but hopefully this story outlines that these cold-calling sales guys really don't know what they're talking about. They'll tell you any sort of rubbish to get you signed up. They're on commission, they don't know their jobs, don't know the product they're selling, and they'd do anything to sucker you in.

Regardless of whether or not specific apps are affected by things like Xcode Ghost, the McAfee app cannot scan other applications, so its value as an antivirus package is effectively zero.

This wasn't really a cold call, my contract is nearly up, and the main purpose was to wave a new iphone at me with another contract.
