rMB 2016 crashes right after wake – anyone else?

rMB 2016, m5/512, High Sierra 10.13.4, did a fresh install two months ago.

The Macbook has been doing this every now and then before the reinstall, but now it got to the point where it does it a few times in a row. When I close the lid, then reopen it, after a few seconds (not immediately) the screen stops updating. It actually works, because I tried to type a bit, and attempted to click the mouse. The problem is "resolved" by closing and reopening the lid again, but in the last week it started immediately happening again. I close the lid, open it, 5-10 seconds after mouse cursor stops, I close the lid, open it... and eventually it works again.

Since it's been occasionally doing it for a long(ish) time I can't tell when it started. Either 10.13.4 made it worse, or it's just happening because of some sort of hardware problem. I'm in Iceland right now. There's no Apple Store here, I bought the laptop in the Netherlands. I'm on a writer retreat until April 29, and a non-working laptop is going to make things very awkward. I don't have a large backup drive with me, only a USB-C stick, so I can't reinstall anything. I switched off "put hard disks to sleep when possible" in Energy Saver settings – no dice.

Has anybody else had this problem, and if yes, did you manage to solve it? If yes, how? Why can't I have a keyboard problem like a normal person? *knocks on wood*

I’ve been seeing this with my 2016 too. Not every time, but sometimes, I’ll open the lid and after a second or two the screen will freeze. I’ll close it, then open it immediately, and just like that it will be working. It’s never happened repeatedly.

I think it started about a month ago. I haven’t complained because I run the macOS betas and this kind of thing is not unexpected. And it’s more annoying than disastrous.

Oh yes, I did SMC and PRAM reset, forgot to mention that, no change.

@mainelyme, that sounds exactly the same. I don't run betas though. And indeed, so far it hasn't caused any disasters, but it's worrying... I tried to google the problem, but it seems too specific for me to find – or we're the only two people who have it

had various issues such as this on 10.13.4 which resulted in me having to downgrade to 10.13.3
i'm gonna give 10.13.5 a try when it comes out but stay on .3 in the meantime

Wish I could downgrade to 10.13.3, but I won't be able to access my backups for two more weeks. I had this happen to me "only" twice today... I'd be happy to know it's OS hiccup though, and not my logic board doing something.

Same thing happens to me. But with rMB 2017. When I open the lid, screen freezes.
But I don't close it back and reopen it. I just leave it like that for 5-15 secs until it unfreezes. This is the bug with the latest MacOS version I believe. Annoying to say the least, but I do believe they will fix it with the next update. Or at least I hope so

Dear God, Apple is getting worse and worse these days...

On login screen it froze, took 8 seconds to unfreeze. But then when I was not on the login screen (my laptop locks itself after 1 hour) I waited half a minute, then gave up.

What will the next macOS update make more snappy, the freezing, or the unfreezing? So many questions!

I thought I was the only one... I brought my MB 2016 to the Apple store 3 times, and it’s still not fixed. 1st time they replaced the logic board, 2nd time they replaced the screen, 3rd time I don’t even know what they did.

So it’s just an OS thing?

No. To reproduce my issue just take your hands away from the trackpad and keyboard, but imagine you're still typing/moving the cursor, only nothing is happening on the screen It happens most often (but not only) when I type in my password, and press Enter.
