Hi all

Has anyone had any experience trying to repair rMBP 15" late 2013 with mura (light spot on screen) out of warranty period without Apple Care? According to internet the issue seems to be quite mass. Has anyone succeeded in persuading Apple to repair for free?

Please share your experience or link experience you've read anywhere else. Experience for other models is welcome as well.

For reference mura is light spot on the screen.

Two of these appeared on my 13" after three months or so and I'm 100% sure there hadn't been any excessive pressure, I'd been babying the machine. They're close to the edge so I gradually stopped worrying about them. But yeah, I wouldn't expect a free repair.

One appeared on my 2014 13" about a month after buying, with no pressure. Of course it was fixed because I was still under warranty.

BUT, depending on your situation, you may be able to get Apple to give you a warranty on that Mac, if you've had it for a short period of time, and you are not out of the extended warranty. I know this because I bought a new condition but used 15" that was out of warranty, and had never been extended. I called Apple and somehow persuaded a specialist to sell me the extended warranty. It's worth a try.

Even if I persuade Apple to sell me Apple Care out of warranty period, it will still only work for half a year - three years from the purchase date. And its cost is not much less than authorized service centre repair price and is on par with iFixit price for display replacement with lifetime warranty. :(

Nevertheless thank you for the info.

This might help future readers.

I had veeery minor stains on my screen (like mini dots in place where corners of few keyboard keys touch display), they were that minor they were only seen under specific angle under bright light. They did not bother me for several years. I've seen staingate photos, mine were nowhere near any of them.

I went to certified service centre, showed them the "stains", mentioned the anti-reflective replacement program and also showed them the mura, the only thing that bothered me.

Result? They've replaced the display for free.
