I'm surprised that so few have noticed this, especially on the Steam forum. Makes me concerned that it won't be fixed any time soon unless others are aware of it.

I don't know what's happening, but others described it as a scaling issue. No matter what resolution you pick in Portal 2, it renders it at 2880x1800 on the rMBP, down scales it to the equivalent OSX resolution, then scales it again to what you pick in the options. Or something like that. All this scaling isn't necessary. There's no real way to run it at native, 1920x1200 is as close as you get. The scaling is diminishing performance, otherwise retina would look like glass and be playable and smooth. It's still playable but some parts are less smooth and all that scaling doesn't help and probably adds lag.

Plus not a single AA mode works because of it. Every resolution is pixelated no matter what due to scaling. Any manual workarounds?
