I'm getting frustrated trying to figure out why my fps is so low on Skyrim. Following the directions in these forums and elsewhere, I've been running with these specs:

Retina MacBook Pro 2.6/16/512
Steam version of Skyrim
Windows 7 64bit
Updated Nvidia drivers to 304.79
Overclocked gpu using nvidiaInspector to ~ 950/1550
vsync both enabled and disabled
I have a few mods installed using Nexus, but none of them should effect fps (SkyUI).
No other applications (other than Fraps and gpu-z) running in the background.

No matter what, I can't get my fps above 30 (using fraps). I've downed the res to 1600x1000 on medium settings and even lower, and it doesn't seem to help. How are people getting +30fps on Ultra settings at 1920x1200?

Any help would be appreciated.

First of all when you updated the drivers did you do a clean install? I did not do that earlier and my performance on Batman Arkham City was horrendous (around 22-30 FPS). After I did a clean install it improved to 50-60FPS.

Anyway I bet the main problem is FRAPS. If you are using Fraps, it tends to limit to 30 FPS (if I am not mistaken). Try gaming without Fraps.

The last time I overclocked my MBP I got a Bluescreen.

Be careful with that stuff! I wouldn't overclock a laptop, the fans and the whole cooling system is not as flexible a in a desktop tower. The whole machine gets really damn hot.

Interesting.. I can get better than that at 1920x1200 running High in OSX in a wrapper ...
I've heard several people complaining about GPU performance in Windows though.

The very next day, I was able to get 40+ fps in Whiterun. I didn't do anything differently. Maybe when I shut down on the Windows side it cleaned up some cache that was bogging things down?

Anyway, I reverted back to the normal clock speeds. The top of the keyboard (above the 'W' key) was noticeably hotter when running OC'ed. Since then I've installed the new 1.7 update and I'm running about 10 mods and it's consistently above 30fps at 1920x1200 at high settings and decent draw distances.

I'm a happy camper now :)
