iPod RMVB Converter

I had a friend burn me some videos he had on his windows computer.
Turns out they are in RMVB format, and I have a Mac.

Does anybody know of any good RMVB converters for Mac OS X, preferably Leopard?

A Solution?

I spent a lot of time trying to convert my 40Gb of RMVB videos to H.264, and it seems the alternatives are:

1) FFmpegX (http://homepage.mac.com/major4/): Install the optional reallib.zip package. It didn't work for me, but it worked for others, so why not give it a try...

2) Wait for Xilisoft (http://www.xilisoft.com/video-converter.html) to include RealVideo support in their Video Converter for Mac. The windows version supports RMVB, but the Mac version still doesn't. I e-mailed their tech support and was told they are working on it.

3) Do not wait for Xilisoft to upgrade their Video Converter for Mac and install the Windows version under a Boot Camp/parallels/fusion scheme on your Mac. (as a matter of fact, I'll try this one...)

Here's a quick & free conversion option

1. Download FLV Crunch here which will convert RMVB files to pretty much any other format (AVI, MPG4, etc.)

2. For some reason FLV Crunch won't recognize the suffix ".rmvb" but WILL recognize ".rm". Luckily, the suffixes are interchangeable, so just change the file name suffix to ".rm". The finder doesn't even protest this suffix change like it will with others, mostly because the suffixes mean the same thing to your computer.

3. Some files will fail to convert (about a 1-in-10 rate for me) but the majority of your files will convert easily. Don't be afraid to play with the resolution (scale it up a small amount produces no visible blurring, IMO) and definitely max out the frame rate as this will cut down on "jumpy" video.

I wouldn't trust my hard earned cash with a company like Xilisoft. Apart from their website for the mac version of this software saying it can do rm and rmvb (which it can't) in my searches for software that can do it, I also downloaded a program from ImToo, straggly, its exactly the same product with different branding. Including more fake "my friend told me about this..." forum posts linking to either one that I can keep track of.
