Do any of you have RoadRunner email with Time Warner? I have all of my account settings correct on my iMac, but when I try to SEND on the iPhone, it doesnt go.

I called Time Warner, and the super unhelpful customer service guy said they didnt support the iPhone, so I was kinda on my own. Anyone have any ideas? It just tells me that it cannot connect to smtp.socal.rr.com.

Grr.

The problem is their outbound server (smtp-server.xxxx.rr.com). Instead of using authentication it relies on their network for security. Basically, it will only accept outbound mail from your house. So, you need something else for outbound messages, unless someone knows a way to access RR's outbound servers via some authentication method.

I don't bother sending from RR, with my iPhone. I use my gmail account for all outbound. My quick fix.

When some people had issues in the first weekend of iPhoneness with other providers, that were similar, one frequent workaround is to switch the SMTP server for that account from the one for the provider to the one for AT&T, which is cwmx.com (no "smtp"). I'm not certain whether this will allow you to send over WiFi, but it should let you send over EDGE at a minimum.

See my posts in this thread for more info.

i gave up

trying to send outgoing via my road runner account, which unfortunately has been my main email for years. tried the cwmx address, didn't work. tried everything, and all different configurations. finally, i just decided to send outgoing using gmail's smtp. the only problem with that is, the reply comes from my gmail address!
