Tl;dr at the bottom.
I just wanted to bring this service to more people’s attention. I know there are a lot of people that like the T-Mobile $10/5GB/150 day plan for the iPad, and I feel this is a great alternative to that.
What’s different about Roamless is that you don’t purchase data ahead of time. Instead of buying data that expires after a set amount of time if you don’t use it, you add funds to your account and it takes from your balance as you use data. For example, if you add $20 to your account and only use $5 worth this week but don’t need to use it again for a few months, you will still have $15 in your account when you decide to use it again.
Data rates aren’t terrible either. In the US, it’s $2.45/GB. That’s a little more than T-Mobile’s $2/GB but again, Roamless never expires.
You can also use this data in 168 countries, though the rates are higher in some countries. In Australia, France, Germany, Spain, the UK, etc. data is the same $2.45/GB, but in Hong Kong it’s $4.45, in Canada it’s $4.95, Japan $5.95, and so on. It’s not the cheapest option everywhere but it’s an option, nonetheless.
Another thing that sets Roamless apart from T-Mobile’s plan: you can use Roamless on T-Mobile or AT&T, and switch between them as needed. You just go into settings and select which network you want to use.
One more thing. Roamless isn’t iPad-specific. You can use Roamless on any eSIM-capable iPhone. That’s useful if you have a spare phone that you just want to have a little data on, or want to give yourself a little extra coverage on top of your main network. I use Verizon, but I have a Roamless eSIM installed on my phone so I can use AT&T or T-Mobile if I’m somewhere that Verizon is no bueno. You can’t, however use the same account on two devices at the same time. You can only have one eSIM installed on a device at a time. If you want Roamless on an iPad and iPhone, you must create two different accounts and add separate funds to each.
One more “one more thing.” I mentioned that the data is slightly more per GB than T-Mobile’s plan. Generally that’s true, but the first time you top up $20 or more, you get a bonus $5 credit. If you use someone’s referral code, you get another $3 credit. So $20 gets you $28 in your account, which winds up being just over 11.4GB or $1.75/GB. I’m not going to post my referral code here because I don’t want this topic looking like an advertisement. If you need one, you can send me a DM and I’ll send you mine. I would also get a $3 credit. Otherwise, I’m sure you can find one somewhere online.
