Rogers just told me Apple was to blame for slow 3g

I've been getting between 100kbps and 300kbps tops on 3g...

Thats ridiculously slow. Called tech support they didn't seem to be aware of any speed issues on 3g.

Finally got one to run speed tests on his test iPhone and lo and behold he was getting the same ridiculously slow speeds.

He then put me on hold for a while while he checked with his network ops or whatever. He came back saying that the towers in my city were pushing 3g as they should and that the slowdown was across all iPhones and that Apple was working on a fix...

Blowing smoke up my rear? I'm in Moncton, New-Brunswick...

Now that they mention it though, I remember 3g being blazing fast pre iPhone update.... who knows... /sigh

This has been going on for a year now in the US; someone has an issue with reception on their iPhone, AT&T and Apple throw the person back and forth...
 
Ask Rogers if you should start sending your monthly payments to Apple then.
 
3G Slow in UK

If it helps, 3G is also much slower than I expected here in the UK. I'm in a fairly large city (Leicester) and 3G varies from slow to no.

I didn't know what speed to expect but there is a TV ad which shows almost instantaneous speed.

Well I would like for Tuner to work at least... streaming audio at work helps keep me sane... (and it's blocked from my work computer soooo)

:) I'm paying good money for 3g, and right now, its not that my 3g is slow, its that my 3g is the same speed as Edge so yeah...

Rogers told me to call at the end of the month for a credit..

It's Rogers' fault, because they can't accommodate for the higher demand of 3G due to the release of the iPhone.
 
It is apple's fault. The 3G chipset they used is reported to be problematic and a software update is supposed to be coming to address the problem by the end of the month.

Then why does my speed of data vary depending on the time of the day from the same location even when I'm getting 4 to 5 bars? My slowdowns seem to happen mostly when people are going to or leaving work and then the speed go back up again after rush hour.

If this was a cell tower reception issue, wouldn't I have lower signal? The variation at home can go between 0.08Mbps and 2.55Mbps. At work, I can go from virtually no data to about 1.5Mbps while at my desk.

Don't worry, AustinSTI has no idea what s/he is talking about.
 
To be honest, I doubt if anyone here knows who/what is at fault. A lot of people are re-reporting others issuing blame, but they don't know either.
 
A almoust returned my iPhone b.o. oppr 3G speed

I have iPhone for 2 days now. the first day I could not get to internet at all. Bad SIM card seems to be the issue. When I looked at the old one - it had significant wear at the contact surface (developed friction grooves) - looks like they used it at the factory many many times and then left this one in my new iPhone. With new SIM card I hardly have any issues and my iPhone outperform the ones on the display in Apple store now.
The speed would vary a lot during day. Signal strength does not seem to affect the speed.

The best I got was over 2000kbs, average 760...1500kbs and the worst ~200kbs. Latency: 250...500ms.

Had 1 drop during 611 call with old SIM card. None with the new one ~1hr of air time.

I hopefully this 3G saga will help to get ATT and Apple attention. The claims are pretty serious to ignore.

Number of bars only shows how close you are to the cell tower - it does not reflect quality or capacity of the network.

Wow those are pretty good speeds. I get nowhere near your high end. Where are you located?
 
3G speed was way slow today in Boston. I was downtown when I noticed my 3G slowed down to a crawl so I stopped in to see if the iPhones in the Boylston St. flagship store were experiencing the same slowdown. Low and behold all the iPhones I tried tested miserably, so much so that they were faster on edge than 3G. All had 4 to 5 bars of 3G but had super slow speeds around 50kbps. I checked my speed again around 8pm and I'm back up to normal speeds, (1457kbps at last check). While I don't think Apple is entirely off the hook I think AT&T's network is the bigger bottleneck.

Concur, while we in in the AT&T store in San Diego this Friday the rep apologized profusely for the slow 3G and said AT&T was fixing it???? I didn't even mention the speed.
