Any idea what this is (see attached pic). I have seen it with an @ and with no title at all.

That is scary, I would "sudo kill" them, run a virus scan, run file diagnostics, and a good amount of utilities.
 
I don't know what they are but I have seen them also. I've watched them closely and I have investigated them to the best of my knowledge and deemed them harmless. Seems to be some unknown operation being performed by an ill programed app or some erroneous system action.
 
that looks like an issue with whatever program that is. drop into the terminal and do a real 'top' to see if these processes are showing up.

you can do it like this to get a text output:

top -d 1 -n 4 > ~/Desktop/top.txt

this will put a nice file on your desktop with four readings of the processes going on at a 1 second delay btwn them.
