Some great news! Those of us who care passionately about Mac gaming & supporting Mac developers where possible will soon have (probably) the mother of all excellent strategy games coming to OS X. Undoubtedly some will moan about prices, late release dates, etc., but I see only clear positives about this development & I'll certainly be buying. :) Kudos to Feral! Well done guys! Hope you get round to doing "Medieval 2" also!

Um I beg to differ.

And I beg to differ YOUR side.

You can't tell me that the original H2G2 on the Apple II sucks just because its graphics are outdated today.

You can't tell me that ANY game sucks because it's graphics are outdated. The CONTENT of the game is the PURPOSE of the game.

If all you care about is the pretty, buy an i7 gaming rig and run Crysis. I've heard there isn't any story.

I will be getting it, they will probably update the graphics, if only slightly. I'm tired of screwing around with sloppy cider ports of games i like. Good news for me!

Has anybody tried the Steam version of Rome in Crossover? You can get the complete pack (with Alexander, which the mac version lacks) for a mere ten bucks. As much as an OS X native version would be nice, this is tempting...

That said, I'm glad this is coming to the mac. Rome: Total war is probably the #1 game requested at the Inside Mac Games forums, so it's great Feral's listening.

Thing is, an ancient game (5 years is ancient by modern gaming standards) will get a Mac port, and it will probably cost around $25 or more. This game on Windows you could most likely find for less than 10 dollars. It would only make sense if they offered this for an incredibly low price for download, but it's not gonna happen.

I absolutely love Total War: Medieval. Most outstanding game. It might have been the been-there-done-that feeling when Rome came out so that it never grabbed me.

Hmmm, can i make a cider on my own? I have bought the game years ago for my old windows pc, but now i only use mac. Can i play it on my mac without using bootcamp?

I ciderized a version of it earlier this year the second I got my unibody MBP (2.8ghz)...the Cider version ran TERRIBLY. I can run it in bootcamp at max settings and fight a 2000-4000 man battle inside a city at 40-60fps or more...on the cider version, it was more like 15-20.

Medieval 2, by the way, usually does 20-40fps at native res on max settings (except AA...I always have to give up AA) on bootcamp.

Frankly, as old as it is, as long as it's not a cider version this is VERY happy news. If they sell it for $15 I'll totally pick one up just for the sake of it. Now if they could only do a simultaneous Mac release of Empire:Total War...

Just to confirm we never use Cider in any of our games, the games are always a native Mac designed version of the game. This allows for Mac specific features not available in cider ports.

We plan on releasing the game in the next few months, it will be PC <-> Mac compatible and it will support the PC based fan mod's as well.

It will be a "Legends" title so the pricing is the same as Pirates!, this means a lower than standard price point and for a game that takes 200 hours to complete it should be viewed (I hope) as good value.

Cheers,

Edwin
