Root Directory on usb stick?

I am trying to drag and drop jpeg pictures from my photo library on my Mac to a usb stick so I can load them in my car radio. It tells me to load them into the 'root directory on the usb. How do I do this and where is the root directory on the usb >

The root directory of the USB drive is what you see when you double click on the icon of the USB drive. It's just the top level of that USB drive. Don't put the music files in subfolders on that drive, and you'll be all set.
