Rooting Kindle Fire HD: questions...

Hi

My questions:

Is it worth it?

There seems to be many methods to do this. I'm not a tech expert- what would be the safest, easiest way?

I posted this in the Apple App forum but was wondering -- if I root and install Chrome does that mean I'll be able to sign into my iCloud and use the web version of the apps (Pages, Notes, Etc)

Thanks for any advice. (In case you're wondering, the Kindle Fire was a gift, which is how I ended up with one to begin with)

iCloud doesn't work on mobile browsers. I've tried it before with no luck.

Rooting a Kindle Fire isn't really worth it, unless you're doing it to flash CyanogenMod.

The best I got iCloud working was using FireFox beta browser. But even then it was still buggy and only fit right in portrait mode.

Best way to use iCloud services on a tablet is to use a remote desktop app. I use Slashtop. It's free for use on the same network.

As far as rooting goes, it's worth it if you to have access to all Android apps and not just the ones in the Amazon store. You can also change launchers or install a custom rom.

I disagree. I have found that rooting it and installing an alternate launcher like Nova to be a great way to have the choice between a more Android-like experience and the standard Amazon Fire experience. Without rooting, there are only one or two alternate launchers that will work and even with those, tapping the home button returns to the kindle fire homescreen. But rooting allows launchers to work correctly.

I wouldn't flash CyanogenMod because it doesn't support the hardware as well as the native Android underpinnings of the stock firmware.
