Is anyone able to rotate a video using QuickTime ? Apple has instructions that are woefully old.... from 2012 ! Have to presume the 'steps' haven't changed since they haven't updated them.

You can select "Rotate right" or "Rotate left" but once you do, the video disappears. Even the window bar changes from the filename to "untitled".

QT works fine for video rotations on my Sierra 10.12.6 MacBook Air 13. I was glad to discover this feature as my iOS 10 iPod Touch camera gives me the wrong orientation for any video pointing down.

iMac at work is running current High Sierra. My personal MacBook Air is running 10.13.2 beta. I get the same behavior on both. Googling shows that others see the same behavior that I'm seeing too.... The steps I do are:

1) Open video
2) View, Show Clips
3) Select All
4) Rotate left/right (2x)
After the 1st rotate, the window turns black and the filename changes from the actual name to "Untitled"
5) Click 'Done'

Steps 2, 3, and 5 are optional. You can go from 1 to 4 and the behavior is the same. Apple says to do 2 and 3.
