Router security help

Hi Guys

Just having a few problems with the security settings on my Netgear WGR614. I have discovered that i had it on default and my lucky next door neighbour has been running about 5 pcs on my wireless connection. I have been to the settings page in Netgear and tried both of the security settings (WEP & WPA-PSK) but they seem to shut out my laptop which is on the wireless network. My desktop which is connected directly into the router carries on working fine. Could someone please explain the security settings to me and give me an idea as to how to make ny network secure - yet still access it myself.

Otherwise, easy way, don't encrypt just make a MAC address filter, that keeps out nosy people

When encrypting your network it will only apply to your wireless connection which is why your wired machine is not affected

Typically you want to go for WPA, WEP is weaker and by design is flawed so it can be broken

Once you have set this up on your router your laptop won't be able to just log on, you will need to select your Wireless network from the list of availbe networks and it will ask you for a password. You then simply enter the same password that you entered in when you set up the encryption
