Roxio Toast 12 Titanium - Avoid

Just tried to burn a m4v file to DVD with Toast 12, 9 hours later still at 35%, on a Mac Pro.

Worst piece of garbage I've ever used, anything else that might be of use ?

This sounds more like a hardware problem than a software problem.
When did you last use a lens cleaner on your drive? It builds up gunk even when unused.
Toast used to be extremely tolerant of drive errors, it just took longer when it found them.

It's doing the conversion first, its not even got as far as writing to the DVD drive yet.

Use an app called burn. It's free. You won't get a pretty menu, but it's fast at converting. Problem with toast is that it only uses one core to convert while burn uses ffmpeg, which uses all your cores.

Can anyone recommend some decent Burning software for a Mac? apart from Toast? i don,t know why some tec person could not bring a new program out to do it.People who own Mac,s are supposed to be more inventive, We need more burning software for Mac i do a lot of burning well i did tell i moved to a Mac

Actually, i've always found even Toast 10 to be slow

I think its always been the way Toast encodes/converts which slows it down... This is why i prefer using much faster software on Windows...

You could try setting Encode options to "custom" and adjust the slider for further for speed to sacrifice quality, but i think its just Toast that is the issue..

Much faster with other software, even other Mac software is faster. Could also be the fact Toast is all integrated as well

I haven't burned a CD or DVD in years... but the last time I did, Toast was easily the fastest app to burn data to a DVD. That being said, it was also the buggiest piece of garbage I had ever installed.

The BURN software linked above looks REALLY old. I don't know if it even runs anymore. In fact, looking at all the "burn"-related apps listed on MacUpdate, I only found one app beside Roxio that has been updated in the last 5 years. It seems to me that it's just a dead technology that is quickly losing mass-support.

BURN still works in Sierra..surprisingly (10.12.6).. But i gave up on this as well. not by the "temp" mpg it creates in folder, I didn't have an issue with that, but by the limits that BURN could support, as there was too many problems with getting ac3 audio over. Even Perian installed didn't fix it.

I put up with that for a while, but then it got too hard needing to install other things to support it.

For "Data" discs, it works perfect though.

Toast always worked in these types of cases, but the slowest just drew me away from that..

encoding small videos with toast is fine, but never 2 hour movie. Took about an hour just to encode. on the "best quality setting"

Thanks for your thoughts on BURN. I do have an external burner and come across the occasion to burn a data CD/DVD once in a great while, along with a simple music CD. I'll have to give BURN a try.
