Firstly, apologies if this has already been posted, couldn't find a topic on it.

I've upgraded to ML, and instantly found out that my RSS feeds from Safari 5 have crashed and burned. I keep them organised in the bookmarks bar, but now when clicking a link I am told that Safari 6 doesn't support RSS as there is no reader installed.

Helpfully, I'm then directed to the AppStore to install something. But what? I want an app that duplicates the old function of Safari - namely regular polling of the feeds for new stories, showing that number in my bookmarks bar, and then the ability to read the feed in Safari - not an external app.

Anything out there? Why did Apple remove such a basic function?

Thank you, I have that extension, but all it does is add an RSS logo to the left lf the address bar. Clicking on it, when a feed is available, still results in the error of Safari not actually being able to open/read the feed full stop.

You are going to need to install an app to read RSS feeds. Both Reeder and Caffeinated in the app store are popular, but are not free.

If you want something free try Vienna.

Will these work within Safari? Or am I consigned to a stand-alone app now?

Those are stand alone apps.

If you want to stay in Safari you can use a Google Reader account to read your RSS feeds in Safari on the Google Reader web site. This is all some people use and it works quite well. You can even at a tool button to Safari to add feeds directly to Google Reader.

Here is how it looks.

It's not perfect but I'm using RSS Menu:

RSS Menu

It puts a drop-down in your menu bar, complete with previews, and the sites open in your default browser.

*edit* Anything involving google is not an option for me, I'm afraid.

Thank you, I think that'll be the closest I get to a solution for the time being. Wish Apple hadn't killed this feature :(
