Alright so i'm looking to get a new game for my macbook pro. Right now i have Rome: Total War and i love it. The only thing is, the multiplayer community for the mac isn't the strongest. Usually like a max of three games going on at once.

I use gameranger for RTW and i always notice how many AOE3 games there are going on so i've become interested.

If anyone could give me a rundown of the similarities differences between RTW and AOE3, it'd be greatly appreciated. Would it be worth buying or is there a better game?

Also is there any site like direct2drive that has AOE3 that i can download it right away? I'm only running OSX 10.5.8 (leopard) so i don't have access to the app store. Thanks again for any help.

RTW and AOE3 aren't really all that much like each other.

Rome Total War focuses on controlling troops in battle - thats the sum total of it. Normally you'll have thousands of troops on the screen and you'll be solely focused on controlling them.

AOE3 is an RTS. That means you build a base, build some units and send them off to attack your enemies. You'll be trying to build a up a town and an economy while fighting off players. While they're superficially similar (top down view with cool little dudes with swords) the actual gameplay is very different.

Would you happen to be able to explain the multiplayer aspect of AOE3 or is it the same as singleplayer where you just get a base and you have to create your units and send them out to fight the enemy? I'm very interested in getting a game like RTW but that also has a decent multiplayer following.
