I lost count how many times I was trying to switch to Macs. My whole family is equipped with my old Apple products, even my in-laws living on a farm in Eastern Europe have a pair of decked out MacBook Pros, to Skype with us. I don't know what I was thinking when I bought the 18' MBP, but this endeavor is coming to an end and this time I swear I won't try again. I'll glue my Powerbook G4 to the wall above the monitor to remind me next time I'll think Apple got it right. Since I've run out of family members to give the 18' to, it will end up as a kitchen computer, storing family photos - 2TB should be enough for it and my wife won't complain that she can't find them on our home server, even though she has links to them on her laptop, tablet and living room TV. Plus the screen is nice, that should be the right tool for the job. Or I'll let my 4 year old play with it and see how fast is he going to kill this keyboard. I like MacOS, but this is just not worth it, too many compromises.
Vega Pro 20 is a bust, I was holding on until finally somebody posted the power figures. It is a bloody 1050ti, with the same TDP, just two years late. I knew Nvidia had something ready in their closets in case AMD will catch up, but those figures - wow. I'll buy it as soon as it comes out, hope Lenovo delayed i9 in X1X to improve cooling and pair it with this. The discussions about 50W chip being cooler than 35W with the same heatsink also crack me up. AMD says the 7nm Navi will be 20% more power efficient than Vega, so - 2.5 times slower than new Nvidia instead of 3x. Awesome. Apple abandoned the pro market and have no intentions to come back. "What's a computer?"
