I want a case like the Otterbox Defender, Griffen Survivor, Gumdrop Tech case but without the builtin screen protection. I have found the builtin protectors to cause issues with the quality of the display. Also I'm not into the design of the Ballistic cases...what other options do I have?

Survivor has a built-in protector - only the Lifeproof avoids it. But the watertight seals are a bit fiddly to use properly.
If you leave it off, I don't know if it'll fit right. The screen protector comes off he frame for replacement, but I don't know if it can stay off.
Well, I use the Otterbox currently with a Zagg HD underneath. I just simply popped out the built in shield. Works great and doesn't void the warranty.
The only reason one would need the lifeproof is for the waterproof ability. Nice to have, but unnecessary for my iPad. Plus it's twice as much as the Otterbox.
