We know we are gettin a die shrink to 7nm in the new A12 chip which should lead to speed and battery life improvements. Do we have any rumors on the actual size of the battery?

This year the Samsung Note went up to 4,000 mAh
Pixel XL 3500 mAH
iPhone X last year 2700 mAh
iPhone XS + ???? mAh

I'm guessing 3000-3300 mAh for the XS+ next year.

If we get a 20% battery life improvement from the chip, and more space for battery in the XS + - we should see some nice gains. Any leaks on the insides yet that might show battery size?

Being apple the battery will be the size required to give the same amount of battery life as the previous generation. Less thirsty phone will either result in a bit of dead space or a slimmer phone.

Increased battery life would be nice but there’s no way I can use a phone that big with my smaller than average hands. I have the 10 and an iPhone SE. The SE obviously works very well with one hand usage. The X does too but wouldn’t be able to use a phone any bigger. It’s the size of the 6s I had and was able to use that with one hand too. Switched to the 6s+ and couldn’t use with one hand anymore. Battery life was nice though.

The screen is the number one on battery drain. A 6.5” high resolution screen will use a lot of power. The a12 will no doubt be able to get more out of the battery, but it will be offset a bit when you factor in its powering the largest iPhone display ever. I wouldn’t expect it to be a drastic improvement at all.

Coupled with an oled screen which uses less power then a LCD screen. Not really that much bigger of a screen as you think. It’s going to be taller and skinnier then a plus model.

3300-3400mAh

That’s the rumor I found. It was on a picture from KGI research comparing battery specs for 2017-2018 iPhones. Not sure if it was posted here on Macrumors, but I came across it online while doing a search.

Found the link again:

See the second pic showing the battery comparison.
Nice find- Ming is almost always pretty accurate. A 10-20% battery size life, and OLED screens don't take as much power as LCD and maybe 10% increase screen size plus the A12 chip going down to 7nm- I'm guessing we get a 20% increase in battery life.

I know this has been touted before but essentially not unless you’re on smart invert 100% of the time. The iPhone X’s AMOLED consumes 3.25 watts with a full white background at full brightness. Now granted that’s 700 nits of brightness which is insane for an AMOLED panel. An iPhone 8 Plus sucks 1.50 watts at full brightness.

The problem stems with iOS. There’s not a lot of dark colors but I’m still impressed with the X’s battery life so far.

The x has an oled screen and a bigger battery but gets worse battery life than the 8+.

You won’t get any savings from using a white background. Why I have a black wallpaper which uses a lot less battery then any type of a wallpaper on a LCD phone. It would be nice if Apple used a black background for safari.

That's not true. The 8+ is 2.9 mAh and the X is 2.7 mAH.

The 8+ has about 10% more battery size. It gets slightly worse battery life so that gives you an idea of how much the OLED screen saves power wise relative to size of battery

You need to check your facts dude.

I got the 2.7 vs 2.9 right off twitter from a relatively well known source. what are the sizes then?

ok according to below they are about the same for the X and 8+

Correct
[doublepost=1534128586][/doublepost]I don't know about amoled screens being more power efficient really, they are only more efficient when black colors are showing on the display, so when that part of the screen is not being powered it's bound to be some bit more efficient. But they are better in every other way.

That chart might not be far off the battery capacities for the upcoming iphones, the leaks of the X last year were spot on including the X battery capacity.
