Run PC games without boot camp or parallels?

Is there anyway around it?
Batman Arkham Asylum is only $7 today on Steam and I really want to buy it but I don't want to install windows on my mac.

I've heard of Crossover but I'm not sure if that works with Lion and I don't think it supports Arkham Asylum since you have to install net framework or something.

If it doesn't work on Crossover, then you need an actual copy of Windows, either via Boot Camp or VM software (Parallels, VMWare Fusion, etc.)

The latest version of Crossover does support Lion, but you are correct that Arkham Asylum does not work. The crossover website http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxgames has a "Compatibility Search" at the upper-right.

Bah I would if it were so easy but I really can't deal with drivers for windows 7 and such. Do you have to make partions?

Yes. The only other implementation I've seen is Wubi for Ubuntu which chucks everything in to a virtual hard disk file, needless to say, it's hardly the most efficient way of storing an operating system.

If your game doesn't work with windows wrappers, then you will have to virtualise or install windows to a partition. This is the reason I always leave some unpartitioned space when I wipe my drive for some reason, just so I have some space if I should need it in the future.

The Boot Camp Utility makes it *REALLY* easy. It handles re-partitioning for you, and offers to download the Windows drivers for everything onto a USB flash drive. Once Windows is installed, you just put in your USB flash drive it put the drivers on, and it will install all of the drivers for you.

If you use Parallels, then it handles *ALL* aspects of Windows setup, from putting the disc in to installing the drivers, all you do is type in your information up front. (Name, Windows license key, etc.)

If you want to get into Windows games on Mac OS X, I'd suggest signing up and becoming a member on the forums over at portingteam.com

People make hobby ports of games (usually in an empty wrapper format so you have to use your own copy of the game) so that you can run many games without Windows... there are hundreds of wrappers over there for download.... and its a nice little community.

I know Arkham Asylum has been requested and some people have worked on it... I know some people got it sort of working, but i don't think it was ever in a playable state.

Another guy that does a lot of wrappers for games is Paul the Tall... over at paulthetall.com ... he even does video tutorials and such, and mainly uses Wineskin.
