Run scripts when program launches and quits?

Howdy all!

Skipping the details: I need to run an AppleScript when a specific program launches and run another AppleScript when that program quits. Anyone know of a free/easy way to do this? (A custom script would work great but my knowledge of AppleScript is limited.)

I have found a few programs that can do this but have yet to find the "perfect" one. For example: In the past I have jury-rigged ControllerMate to do it, but this is for a new computer and I don't want to spend $25 for this simple purpose. I also found Do Something When but the program hasn't been updated in 6 years so I am hesitant to use it.

Any other thoughts on free programs or where I could find info for a custom script?

Sometimes an app just works and doesn't need any more work. And just because something hasn't been updated doesn't mean your mac will burst into flames. You can always uninstall it.

I use DSW on Mountain Lion with no problems. It detects when SuperDuper is done making a clone, ejects the drive then starts a Time Machine backup on the same drive in a different partition. All I do is plug in the USB cable to get this process started then forget about it.

Thanks Krazy Bill! I know the computer won't explode Michael Bay style, but it is a computer that will be used for live production and I don't want to install things that may make it unstable. But if it works for you then that works for me! Thanks for the recommendation!
