Hello all,
This is probably a very stupid question, but is it possible to run an -external- SSD on an iMac, in a way I wouldn't have to shell out too much extra on a new 27"? I'd guess that the only way to do this would be by USB 2.0/3.0 or FireWire 800, thus making the point of the SSD worthless, but I just was wondering.

Thanks!

Someone asked this question few days ago. The answer: it is possible but completely pointless. You just get an overpriced external hdd with no real performance benefits. The interface is just to slow for a ssd to be justified. Anyway, the price Apple wants for a 256Gb SSD is actually ok - they don't retail under 500€.

Ok thanks for the responses!

I think I might just skip out on the SSD... I'm just not confident that two/three years down the road, when I go to upgrade to the newest, biggest iMac that I will really appreciate the SSD. The performance just isn't worth it to me for that price.

Thanks again!
