Can I run 10.8 on Flash drive on system with 10.11? I have an early 2013 15" rMBP and while I am enjoying 10.11 I was previously running 10.8.5 because there was some software that was not compatible with anything over 10.8.5. I'd like to install 10.8 onto a 32GB USB 3.0 flash drive and put some of the bare bones software. In fact I'd prefer to install 10.6 but I understand my Mac can't run an OS it didn't come installed with. I suppose if I can't do this I will have to buy a used Mac Mini or MacBook Air from 2011~ or so but its somewhat of a bummer that I loose support for certain software when I update to a new OS X....

Should be fine; I've run 10.6 from a USB drive without issues (it was a hard drive rather than flash, but the principle is the same).

So I just have to find a 10.8 installer somewhere now? Then select the flash drive?
