Has anyone been successful running Diablo II Resurrection on an M1 Mac? I have an M1 iMac running Parallels 17 and Windows 11 for ARM. I was unable to get the beta to run when it was released a few weeks back and hesitant to purchase the released version without any ideas on the likelihood of getting it to run on an M1 iMac/Parallels/Windows 11. Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don’t know if there are is a solution, I tryed paralells and windows 10 arm a while back was disappointed but how limited it is in some ways.

Could not even run 3dmark so I did not investigate further and just decided to play game on a console.

Honestly what did you expect by virtulization and then x86 emulation.

Didn’t expect anything. Was just hoping someone was able to get it to work. Thanks.

Have you tried using Crossover?
I note that the original Diablo II works fine on both Parallels and Crossover:

That is the old original version of Diablo II but thanks anyway.

Considering D2:R uses the original D2 codebase and then overlays new graphics on top of it (you can even switch back to the original graphics), if it runs D2, it might run D2:R.

Don’t know if I want to bother purchasing the game and then trying to get a refund just to check it out. I know when Blizzard was running the public beta I couldn’t run it under Parallels/Windows 11 for ARM or Crossover. And I believe the issue people who have tried it in other forums said it was a graphics “card” issue not the original code that caused the issues on the beta and the full release version.

For D2:R, your best bet is to use a dedicated graphics card. It has nothing to do with power, but of which GPU’s D2:R actually supports based on my experience.

So I would be very surprised if you get D2:R working with M1, as it is also doesn’t use a dedicated GPU from AMD or NVIDIA.

Maybe in the future, D2:R relaxes the restrictions of which GPU’s you can use with this game.

It has nothing to do with the GPU. There currently no Mac executable of any sort - M1 or Intel. Blizzard choose not to release one. They have not made any official announcement otherwise

Most people here are thinking more in terms of Parallels/Windows 11 on the M1 Macs NOT a native program, so would not need a Mac executable file.

Should run just fine on an INTEL Mac running bootcamp... assuming it's GPU is adequate.

Yeah, I said, it should run just fine under Windows natively.

Not without a dedicated GPU. It has nothing to do with being adequate but whether the game supports it, which is typically a AMD or NVIDIA GPU.

If you try to run D2:R with integrated graphics, it won't allow the game to run, eventhough it should be powerful enough to run it at the lowest settings atleast.

I have a hard time playing StarCraft II (low graphics and low resolution, 8-core GPU), which runs perfectly fine on my 2013 iMac (high graphics and high resolution).

Part of the explanation is because it's being translated into Rosetta, and another part is because let's face it, the M1 GPU (not CPU) kinda sucks. But nonetheless, the M1 is 5X faster than the Intel Iris predecessor. I'm glad I never tried this POS and I'll hang myself if I ever have to.

Using virtualization + emulation wouldn't get us anywhere for a 2021 game. Apple still has a loooong way to go when it comes to gaming.

The M1 GPU is around a GTX 1050 level. If only Starcraft was native. Then we don't have deal with this emulation/VM crap.

I had an M1 MBA at the beginning of the year, and the updated Warcraft III worked fine on it at the highest graphics settings. Except for the occasional crash.

This one is on Blizzard though. SC2 is still a popular game, they could update it to use Metal or at least fix the performance regressions on M1 Macs. They did it with WoW.

It does use Metal.

Confirm that I have to play on lowest settings and lower-than-native resolution.

Oh, it does? Sorry, totally missed it. But if it's the case, Blizzard should be easily able to fix the performance regressions people are experiencing on M1. The GPU is more than fast enough to play SC2 at 4K.

Yes, it should be more than enough.

But SC2 is a "dead" game. There are literally zero developers actively working on it at Blizzard.
