My 5th generation mini iPad has taken to running really hot to the touch. How can I stop it from doing this? I would be much obliged for any insight. Thank you. -KB

Did you check battery health? Maybe the battery is going. Plus, if you are on iPadOS 16, it may not handle the new OS very well.

Make sure you’re on the most current iPad OS.
I’ve been on developer versions since 15 came out, and neither 15 or 16 have caused heat issues (for me, anyways).

In addition to above suggestions, try removing the case (if using one). Some cases can retain heat and see if that might be a contributor.

Are you running any social media apps in the background? What apps are you running or doing on the iPad when you notice it’s getting hot to the touch?

"Running social media apps in the background?" I'm not sure what that means?
When it starts getting hot to the touch, I'm playing game apps, that I downloaded recently, but I play them one at a time. I've played games on my mini iPad before and I've never had any heat issues before.

What apps are using the most battery? If you don't run them does it stay cool?

That's probably why. Some games can stress the (CPU/GPU) on the iPad that can make it run hot. You need to determine which game is causing your iPad to run hot. Once you determine which game is the culprit, you can send a message to the developer letting them know of the problem you are having.

Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, TikTok.
Only facebook and sometimes Twitter. It doesn't run hot when I'm on facebook itself, but if I watch a facebook video, then it starts to get hot. It was never doing this before. My iOS is 15.7.1 which I just downloaded. I'll have to try it with the most recent download. -Ella

One game in particular. I was playing it last night and my mini iPad started to get hot. So, I stopped playing it. -Ella

One game app and yes my mini iPad stays cool if I don't play that game. Oh, also, if I watch some facebook videos, it starts getting hot. -Ella
