Has anyone else seen this? I ran across this today looking for sheepsaver for M1, and I am blown away. Literally running OS 9 and connected to the internet with sound in less than 5 minutes using the easy method via UTM. I am playing Apeiron off the Macintosh Garden while listening to Apple Music on the same machine and am thrilled.

Does anyone else have any experience with this?

Hello!

I also downloaded the UTM emulator after checking out this site and tried it, it works pretty well although I did have issues trying to get programs "into" mac os 9 from OS X. The procedure they outlined didn't work for me. I actually finally gave up and instead went to a pre-configured version of SheepShaver running OS 9.1 and that worked perfectly well. I was able to download and run some old OS 9 game favorites with it!

I'll probably try the UTM emulator again though, it was pretty impressive.

Unfortunately it seems that no matter what, none of the emulators I've tried are perfect, there is ALWAYS some issue that crops up to ruin the fun...

I use macFUSE with fusehfs to mount my SheepShaver HFS disk image in macOS.

I am not sure how to get it to communicate between the host OS and the virtual OS 9, but I was able to pretty easily navigate to Macintosh garden / Macintosh repository and download the software that way. Literally every title I could ever dream of is on at least one of those sites…

That’s what I also had to do using the old browser in OS9, download the programs from Macintosh Garden, I couldn’t drag and drop them from OSX to the emulator.

Hi, I got OS 9 through UTM too, but am wondering how you managed to play old games that require 256 colors? When I tried, I got an error and color distortion. It wouldn't let me play the game (Monkey Island).

Unless you've got a particular preference for playing Monkey Island via OS 9, you could use ScummVM instead - a much better option imho. :)
