Running OS 10.8 on X1600

I know Apple is dropping support for these. I have an iMac 2006 with 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo and 3GB RAM with Lion - it runs lightening fast!

I would really like to preserve this machine and keep it future proof. I have read the thread on the GMA950 and was wondering if this was possible for the X1600?

It is not possible as you would need a 64-bit KEXT for the X1600.

Your machine is lightning fast? I have the same specs but Nvidia graphics. My page in > 5 gb and out is > 10 gb. I reboot often.

I'm running a 2007 Macbook Pro with pretty much identical specs, and yes, it is pretty speedy with Lion, much faster than any 2007 Windows notebook would hope to be running Windows 7. I'm just hoping beyond hope that someone can manage to hack out a working solution for ML so that I can continue to use the machine.

I've got over a GB of memory free and page-in/out is rarely used. The only thing holding the mac back is the lack of a flash drive IMO.
