Sounds like a great option.

No issues with Pangu?

This app is scary as heck. Even their own website has big lettering "Turn Windows-based programs into Mac apps –NOT"

I have used it and it works very well. I was able to run pinball on my mac:D. It does fall short with very complex applications like Autodesk Inventor, but otherwise is fine.

I imagine there are lots of mac users eager to update now that the jailbreak is slowly getting more stable, i nominate this thread as the official thread for that as a lot of posts are getting lost in the other threads.

to confirm from my side, I couldnt get pangu to work with Wine/Winebottler.
I got futher with VMWare Fusion and a virtual PC downloaded via a reddit user - it loaded a pangu app which crashed upon opening so have restored and awaiting a more stable way to do this!

Running Pangu on MAC

From another thread - Regarding the use of Wine to run Pangu on a Mac:

This will not work. The exe looks for Windows based iTunes drivers, and will not work with OS X and Wine as it doesn't have these.

From another thread....

that was for wine right?

I am pretty sure the virtualmachine way will work, it went right through the process for me and completed but seems there was something that went wrong as the pangu app wouldnt open (i panicked a little and restored but maybe a respring would have done the trick?!)

what other options are there? I have never used bootcamp before but wasnt sure how hard it is to install windows, and how much space I would need..

as something (applejuiced I think) said, borrow someones windows pc to do it.. makes sense really!

I used Parallels 10 with a Win7 VM. Jailbreak was successful with the expected known problems with it.

Make sure you set your connection settings to automatically accept all USB to the virtual machine (guest) and not host. When the iPhone changes modes it sees it as a new device, and can cause issues because the Mac might take over the USB connection.

any idea how one might do this with virtualbox? I might be running into this issue as Pangu gets stuck on the last bit of injecting the bundles(?) or loading resources on the phone, can't get past that part.

the hardest part of this is turning out to be finding a pc to run Pangu on! :)

ok, nvm, figured it out. just added a usb filter and it worked!

I managed to jailbreak last night with using windows virtual machine (after doing a back up and fresh restore in itunes to 8.1) then manually installed Cydia using Cyberduck.
I then updated the jailbreak via the pangu app & from what I can tell I have the latest build of Cydia and all seems to be going ok.

When I restored the phone from my back up all of my photos are missing, from what I can see they just didn’t back up in itunes – they always have any other time I have backed up so not sure what changed?
I am thinking it is something I did wrong in the back up process but not sure – any ideas?

I was freaking out a little but luckily had backed them up manually to a hard drive a couple days before so I only lost a few days worth of photos, still a pain though!

ok then i did something stupid, set up touch id and rebooted after installing a tweak but forgot to turn off touch id and now i am stuck in a boot loop.
don't think volume up works in this instance so looks like i have to restore at home.
knowing my luck apple will push 8.1.1 and stop signing 8.1 before i get home
:p

Just wait for the Mac version to come out. They're basically giving everyone a public alpha right now.

think you are right!
or more so wait for the bug free version!
got everything up and running okay but it was having the touch id which caused me problems.
