I'm sitting here typing on a mid-2012 Macbook Pro(9,1, 2.3ghz, 512gb VRAM, HR-AG screen, 1TB Evo) that's currently set up to dual boot Sierra and Mavericks. This is my main computer, so I can't play with Sierra THAT much. Unfortunately, it's one of only two I have that will run it officially, so I can't offload my pre-release testing onto my faithful white Macbook or one of my other computers I usually use.

In any case, sitting here in Mavericks with a bunch of programs running and using Firefox, the computer is running quite comfortably. Granted I'm not doing anything too difficult, but the CPU is at 36ºC and the case bottom at 29ºC.

While doing much of the same in Sierra earlier(just light web browsing, and with fewer background programs running) I noticed that the computer was getting uncomfortably warm along with the fans ramping up a lot. I didn't have a temperature monitoring program installed or active, so can't give numbers. Like I said, though, it was hot enough that it was uncomfortable to hold on my lap-and that's with a Spec case on the bottom.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I think it's running a little hotter on my 13" rMBP. I should probably try a PRAM/SMC reset, but it is only a beta 1 after all.

10.12 is a completely new OS, it may do some indexing in the background in the first few days. Which can cause the Mac run warmer than normal.

This. My fan was running for most of the day yesterday while Spotlight indexed and I also believe it was scanning for ways to optimize storage. Seems to be back to normal today.

Off topic, but I cant seem to get an answer elsewhere...: Seeing as we almost have the same model mac (9,2 for me), did you notice if there was a firmware update with Sierra?
thanks

It brought my poor 2010 MBA to its knees. I had to disable spotlight it all drives as it was a dog with it running. I got bored and shut the lid.

Notes.app is constantly getting 200% CPU and spinning up fans like crazy. The release notes only mention a problem with deleted items re-appearing, but I am not seeing that. Only CPU spikes. That's the only performance issue I'm noticing. Tried on 2 installs with 1 being a fresh partition.

The same "situation" I have in my MBA 11" 2012.

The fan is continously running. No matter if I just start the computer up, I run Adobe CC or anything else.

I cannot remember exactly, but I think it happened the same with the DP of El Capitan...

I'd say its operations being executed in the background, that should finish at some point.

What temps are you guys seeing?

No issues with either my rMBP 13 or 4.1 flashed to 5.1 MP. Had the usual optimisation period high cpu/memory use for maybe 4 to 6 hours after install but fine since then.

Maybe it is due to the PHOTO Agent, it is indexing photos for Face detection...
