Is it OK to run/jog/bunnyhop with the iPhone? I assume it won't affect the ipod but will heavy physical activity affect the motion sensors?

I would run with my iPhone in a heartbeat over a full size iPod!

there should be nothing wrong with it

great, thank you all for your responses. I used to run with my shuffle but I traded it in at the apple store for a video ipod and of course i would never run with that one!

I know this doesn't answer your question, but I've decided to stick with the nano and the nike+ setup.

I don't take a phone with me anyway.

My biggest concern with taking the iphone with me is messing it up with sweat, water, rain, accidental drops, whatever.

or someone beating you up and taking your iphoney.

you need to have a cluster of ninjas around you for protection with that thing.

I run with my iPhone. I make sure to wear shorts with big enough pockets to keep the iPhone from bouncing out. I have a "Running" playlist I listen to. I AM a bit annoyed with the big Belkin headphone adapter, though...

it should be fine, it has solid state memory so there are no moving parts, so it should be good

I've been running with my iPhone a few times and almost every time i do, the headphone button stops working...I click and nothing happens. I'm thinking sweat is getting into the button and shorting it out or something cause if I wait awhile it works again (i.e. dries up).

Without that button, skipping to the next song on an iPhone is quite the P.I.T.A. while running. Anyone else have this issue?

i've had it a step worse. The button didn't only fail, it repeatedly was triggered, pause and skipping tracks. Mine was also fine after drying, but I no longer use the included headset while working out. I use my old iPod headset with my iPhone.

As a note, the older iPod headsets have a sleave over the plug that can be slid back to allow it to fit into the iPhone.

Funny you say that...that's exactly how I know my button is about to fail. All of the sudden my music will start skipping, then after awhile stop all together. It just pauses all by itself like you said. Once I replay it by hitting the screen, the button on the headset no longer works at all.

Seems like a pretty basic design flaw with these headphones if it makes them unusable while exercising...isn't that one of the main advantages of a portable music player?

Guess my iPhone isn't going to entirely take the place of my iPod like I thought it would.

I don't know what exactly was the deal but one day I was running with my iPhone and the earbud button didn't work and the iPod would randomly pause.

I don't know if it was because of the moisture on the screen or what but this is something that I ran into (everything is fine now).

Just a heads up, I'd recommend using your iPod just for protection/prevention reasons, but the iPhone is just so pretty. ;)

two things

one, the trade in does not work with a shuffle, you dont get any money off a new one if you trade in a shuffle. and two, why would you never run with a video ipod but you were contemplating using an iphone?

the apple store willingly accepted my shuffle as a trade in. They must not like you.

I run with my touch

I run with my iPod touch all the time. It is great. I have started using the stopwatch at http://www.logyourrun.com/stopwatch - it allows me to keep tack of my time while listening to music and it lets me upload my activities easily to my favorite running log.

I have a band if midget Ninjas that follow me where ever I go. It's my own little entourage!

As some of the other posters alluded to, moisture can be a problem. In summer we have users that activate the moisture sensors and void the warranty. The last time it happened it was someone playing tennis with the phone in their pocket. I assume their shorts got wringing wet, but I've had a couple of times when I took the iPhone out of my pocket there was moisture/condensation on the outside of the front glass. Keep it dry and you should be fine.

Running with an iPhone

I've run more than 400 miles with an iPhone. Haven't had any problems, but definitely protect against the moisture. I use a small plastic ziplock bag I got with some gadget.

Listening to podcasts and such is great when running.

I recently started using an iPhone app called Runmeter to log all my runs, which maps, graphs, and logs all my runs.

Be sure your phone is tucked into your pocket and can't bounce out.

i run with my iPhone religiously. I made a contraption that attaches to my shoulders and head, with supports to my lower back for maximum stability. Its made out of a light metal bracketing system. The iPhone actually sits right infront of my face so I can watch movies while i run. It also decreases the chances of it getting to wet from sweat.
