I am wanting to get an iMac but I want to know if it can act as a monitor for an Xbox 360 in HD. I am assuming that the minidisplay port + VGA adapter, then using the VGA cable for my Xbox 360 will work to get the video running on the Mac. I use a headset, so I'll just use the optical audio for my headset out of the Xbox VGA cable.

Has anyone tried this setup, or something similar to it? Is their a delay through the adapter? Is there other methods to make this work?

THanks for any advice.

The iMac's Mini-DisplayPort is an output, not an input. The only way to get the 360 on the iMac display is through something like an Elgato eyeTV, but that isn't HD.

The Mini-display Port only outputs video. The only way I know is to get some sort of USB video capture card but those introduce a noticeable lag in the video and are really only good for non-interactive video.

This is the only thing that holds the imac back..it really needs a HDMI input in the next refresh

Theres a new solution, which made the news a few days back.
I posted it here, but to no interest. So here it is again:
It's called the "Spawnplayer", which is a hardware box to connect
your console to and play HD a/v through LAN or internet.
Much better than elgato in every aspect.
