Rust On Dock and Wire

So I had rust on my 3GS dock connector that was causing some errors. The Apple Techs saw that the rust didnt go up inside the phone so they replaced it for free (great service, didn't expect that). Now I'm worried that if I use any of the existing USB wires and car charges rust may have gotten on THEM and thus I'll just be reintroducing rust to the device again.

Should I worry about this or just use my wires as normal?
