So I'm going to give up on my trusty old R9 Nano - it's a great card, but I just can't get hardware acceleration working. I got a great deal through work purchasing on a bunch of Biostar RX550 4GB cards that work great, but don't have the 3d performance that I want on my home machine.

For some reason the RX 580 card prices went up over the past couple weeks - but I can get the RX 580 4GB card from Sapphire for about $50 less than the 8GB version. I know the 8GB cards work, but hadn't heard any consensus on the 4GB cards.

Both my work and home machines are dual cpu 4,1->5,1 with the 144.0.0.0 firmware running Open Core - Mojave at home - Catalina at work.

If anyone has any insight I would be much appreciative!

Compatibility is no issue, but the VRAM choice should depend on if you have a multi monitor setup, high res displays 1440p+, or do heavy gaming.

Even if you have 2+ 4k monitors you should be fine with 4gb depending on your workload

Great. The Nano is 4GB of VRAM as well - but I know certain models of cards have been picky in the past (things like some R9 280X cards I've worked with where cards with certain RAM amounts didn't work where others did). And of course stay away from XFX cards... Anyway, sounds like it's worth pulling the trigger on one of these.

Thanks all!

AMD Luxa GPUs were never supported by Apple.

The only RX 550 cards that work are the RX 560 rejects, where the GPU is an AMD Baffin, that were binned to a lower spec and sold as RX 450/550.
