you can lern to program GPU bios :D
or
pay MVC

he put's in all the work to make PC cards work as native mac cards which is relay amazing, it's not as simple as 'turn lights out, drink coffee, tick work on mac box'.

he gives a service that relay is worth it to the people who need what he provides.

Has anyone flashed a plain rx580 video card with the appropriate rom and got a working card with bootscreens, yes or no ?

MVC have yes.
If your looking to do it yourself from a flashed card, it’s a bit like stealing from MVC, if you rip off his rom?

There are other cards on ebay that have boot screens now coming on the market. Your answer does not address my question as there may be other sources. I want to know if it can be done.

If you look at the rom version in the last post, in the ebay description, it is NOT the MVC rom, it just says "mac version" I just want to know if the card can be flashed without any hardware changes. simple.

If you know how MVC achieved it, yes.
But this took a lot of work on their part.
For a long time AMD cards where non bootscreen capable, until MVC did it.
AFAIK, nobody else has done it.

If you look on ebay at the ROM description it appears that they have....
again I own a mvc card but this does not answer my question ....

So you want to know if it's possible to steal the MVC RX 580 ROM, for real?!?
Why would you assume that ? Anyways thats not my question, if you dont know then thats OK. There appear to be others that have a solution but of course I dont know where they got their ROM from, it could be that they renamed the mvc one but thats not what i was asking....

Hey macguru9999 coming to your defense here. I think you asked a perfectly normal question, others unfortunately misinterpreted it.

you're stating you see some evidence on eBay through the screen shot you attached that could suggest there is another source creating a Mac EFI ROM for the RX 580. As you and others already know it would say something like "MacVidCards" in that field, but instead shows "Mac Version", which could imply someone else has done the modification.

simple as that folks. how the heck an innocent question got extrapolated into you're trying to be thief is beyond me. people think/hear what they want I guess. honestly, every time this topic of MVC comes up seems like someone is being accused of trying to steal MVC work and/or threating legal action with lawyers....it all faux epeen measuring contests every time though

You can try dump your mvc 580's rom and flash to a same card

I don't have an MVC card to check, but supposedly they also make some physical changes to the card so that the larger Mac ROM can fit. That's the reason that we didn't see a surge of RX 580s with boot screen as soon as MVC released theirs - you can't simply copy and flash to other cards.

As has been said, the only known source of a Mac Boot Screen ROM for the RX 580 is MVC. Until someone finds another source, I'd guess that those other cards on eBay are just copying MVC's work. But that is just a guess.

No... there are other 580 cards with boot screen on ebay, not from MVC....

The huge problem with mvc, is customer service, it’s non existent.
Try emailing a question...you will not get a reply...
Don’t understand why anybody would support a company like that, it’s flat out unacceptable, COVID 19, is no excuse for lack of communication that existed before ...and continues today.

I could care less who did what, it’s a shame mvc and his monopoly on this lead to this point.
Others are flashing now, they are cheaper, and act like they want your business, this is talking about mvc in the USA, the guy in Poland is much better, he is responsive with email.

and in fact the USA site lists a Vega 56 in stock, and I will not touch it, becuse a total lack of email.
I will get the card, sent all the way from Poland once he gets one in stock.

another guy here in Texas, where I live has the rx580 for $250, super customer service, fast shipping, I could care less how it was flashed.
My boot-screen works. Note the card does not appear the same under devices as a real mvc does.
They may be different, I have both types.

If mvc USA , had a reputation for Good customer service, I may feel different.

I flat out wonder if the USA mvc even exists anymore..
Their is no excuse in the world not to answer a pre sale question from a repeat customer looking to buy again.
But here we are.

If I buy another rx580, I will probably try one of the other australian based ebay vendors, because i know they will stand behind their product.... However the card from mvc, although it was not brand new when i paid through the nose for it, is still working very well !
